Why this range, and why this layout
Twelve questions a page, not fifty. Long multiplication produces two or three lines of working per question, and a sheet packed to the edges leaves nowhere to put it, which is the commonest reason these sheets end up done on a separate piece of paper.
Before you print this one
Tables to 12 recalled quickly, and column addition secure. Long multiplication is mostly those two things stacked, so a wobble in either shows up here as a wrong answer that looks like a method error.
On the column layout
When an answer is wrong, check the addition line before the multiplication. In practice most errors at this stage are in adding the partial products, not in the tables.
When to move on
If the partial products are right but the totals are wrong, the next sheet to print is column addition rather than more multiplication. It is almost always the adding that fails at this stage.
