What decides this list
Three things shape a beach list that shape no other: there is no shade unless you bring it, sand gets into everything that is not sealed, and salt water ruins anything metal that is not rinsed. The gear is ordinary; what changes is that half of it needs a bag of its own.
The thing most often left behind
Something to rinse with. A few litres of fresh water for feet, hands and anything that went in the sea is the difference between a tent you can sleep in and a tent full of sand.
A habit worth having
Pack a dedicated wet bag and a dedicated sandy bag before you go, not after. Sorting damp and gritty things into bags at the end of a day at the beach is nobody’s idea of a good time, and having them ready takes ten seconds.
