The us dollars coin set
The US coins are the only ones of the three whose names give no clue to their value. A child has to learn that a dime is ten cents, because nothing about the word or the coin says so, and a dime is physically smaller than a nickel worth half as much.

Size against value
The largest us dollars coin is the half dollar at 30.61 mm, and the smallest is the dime at 17.91 mm. The most valuable is the dollar coin, which is not the largest, so size is no guide at all.
Print the coin chart and put real coins on top of the drawings. Matching physical coins to a scale drawing is a better first activity than any counting exercise, because it builds identification through handling rather than memorising.
