How to convert degrees Celsius to kelvin
Temperature scales do not share a zero point, so you cannot convert them by multiplying alone, an offset is always involved. Apply K = °C + 273.15 and the result is exact.
Worked example: 12 degrees Celsius × 274.15 = 285.15 kelvin.
Where this conversion comes up
Temperature conversion matters most in cooking, weather and science. Two anchors are worth memorising: water freezes at 0 °C / 32 °F and boils at 100 °C / 212 °F. A rough mental shortcut for °C to °F is “double it and add 30”, which is close enough for weather but not for an oven.
